Privacy Policy

In short: New Tab Plus has no account, no analytics and no telemetry. We do not operate a server that receives your data, and none of your browsing ever reaches us. Everything the extension records about you stays on your Mac and can be paused or deleted at any time.

What we collect

Nothing. We do not collect, receive, store, sell or share any personal information. There is no sign-up, no identifier assigned to you, and no usage reporting.

What stays on your Mac

Everything the extension needs in order to work is kept in Safari's local storage on your own machine:

None of this is synced to us or to anyone else. Deleting the extension deletes it.

Why the extension asks to read every site

Safari does not give extensions a list of your most visited sites, so the only way to offer shortcuts that fill themselves in is to notice which pages you open. That requires broad website access, and Safari rightly warns you about it in strong terms.

Here is the honest limit of what we do with it: the extension notes the address of the page and increments a counter on your Mac. It does not read page content, form fields, passwords or anything you type. It does not transmit any of it. If you would rather not grant this, you can turn tracking off and add your shortcuts by hand, and the rest of the dashboard works exactly the same.

Connections the extension makes

Some widgets need data that does not live on your Mac. Each connection below happens only when you turn that feature on, goes directly from your Mac to that service, and carries no identifier from us. We never see any of it.

Feature Service contacted What it receives
Daily photo background jsDelivr, GitHub A request for the photo list and the image itself. Only when a daily photo background is selected.
Weather Open-Meteo The coordinates of the place you chose, and the city name while you search for it. Only when the weather widget is on and you have set a location.
Shortcut icons The site itself, or DuckDuckGo The address of a site you have a shortcut for, in order to fetch its icon. Icons are cached locally afterwards. Which one is asked first depends on the website permission: with it granted, the site itself is tried first and DuckDuckGo only as a fallback. Without it the extension cannot fetch directly, so DuckDuckGo is asked first.
Watchlist prices CoinGecko The symbols you added to the watchlist, to look up their price. Only when the watchlist widget is on.
On this day Wikimedia Today's date, to look up what happened on it. Only when the On this day widget is on.
Search suggestions DuckDuckGo What you type in the search box, as you type it. Off by default; turn it on in Settings.
Currency conversion Frankfurter A request for the day's published exchange rates. No amounts are sent. Only when you use the converter's currency mode.
News feeds The feeds you add A request for the feed you chose. Only when the feeds widget is on.

Airplane mode turns all of it off. One switch in Settings stops every connection in this table. The dashboard keeps working, and the affected widgets simply say so.

Searching or opening a shortcut navigates Safari to that site as normal. That is an ordinary visit to the site you chose, and their privacy policy applies, not ours.
